Picking A Great Niche Market
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I have this one niche blog and it is taking off so easy. Looking back starting with good keyword research helped a lot. The name of the blog, the domain, every post, every page, every tag is built from keywords that have some good search amounts and low competition.
In about 6 weeks it is getting 70-100 new visitors a day all from free search results. And growing.
The niche also has a nice upward chart in Google Trends.
I choose a niche in the health area and it is about something I find interesting and that I needed to do to improve my own health. That way I can write in a very personal style with some enthusiasm. It is not all just about search. You have to capture your readers attention and imagination.
If you are going to be smart you have to capture their email too. I am getting a couple people a day to my list
I wrote a couple ezine articles, created a wordpress blog and a blogger blog with similar topics, and bookmarked it a fair amount. I used Bookmarking Demon which is an automated bookmarking tool. It creates many different accounts and randomizes input. Once set up all I have to do is paste in a URL and click bookmark and in the background it is putting up about 100 bookmarks while I do other stuff.
It is a Wordpress blog and All in one SEO plugin is used. Max Banner Ads, and Yet Another Related Posts plugins are also used as well as the usual maintenance wp-cache, automatic upgrade, and database backup.
Niche Marketing Keyword Research
To be successful in niche marketing it is important to find the longtail keywords with the least competition and most searches. This is how you will get free search engine results and traffic.
You may already be familiar with the often sited method of niche marketing keyword research. Take your keywords which show enough monthly search volume, wrap them in quotation marks then search at Google. The result of the number of competitive sites that show for that keyword or keyword phrase determines if it is good for niche marketing.
This is a reasonable method that is workable and often effective. Does this tell you how many competitive sites are fully SEO’d for that? No.
There could be other interpretations of what fully SEO’d means that could include the other biggest factor links. For this discussion of keyword research I will use these on site factors. KW used in title, KW used in URL, KW used in body of page.
Let me backtrack a moment and mention that KW used in body of page typically means the KW is used in bold, in italics, and 3-4 times per page. It is not good to overload a page with the same keyword. Another trick to optimize for search is to use related keywords and phrases. In reality nobody can anticipate every possible search on any niche topic so remember to use lots of good quality original content for best results
Wordpress is particularly useful here because if you had set up your permalinks to show the title in the url you are well set. (select custom on the permalinks page then use: %catagories%post%)
Maybe right now you are wondering how to find fully SEO’d keywords. Here is what i do; I use this tool Micro Niche Finder. It does good discovery and offers a lot of options all geared to finding niche keywords.
Sometimes I do find it usefull to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and for building big keyword lists Nichebot since it gives access to a bunch of different tools.

Finding Niches To Market To, Keyword Research
To find a good niche the basic idea is get into a market that you can win in. One you can get page one in search engines for. It is best you have some knowledge in the niche area too, and apply good business sence in presenting your site, to be successful too.
An important way to find your place in a niche is keyword research. You want to find keywords which have decent search volume but not so many websites optimized for that keyword that you will be lost on page 40 of the search. Typically I look for niches where i can find a whole set of keywords I can use in articles, pages and posts.
The 2 tools I have found most usefull are Micro Niche Finder and Nichebot
Micro Niche Finder is fast and gets the main information needed, qty of searches, qty of inurl, intitle, inanchor site that are competing. It also does a good job of turning up a list of realated keywords.
Nichbot is the best deal around. Your monthly free is low and it access wordtracker, google and wordtrend. Both wordtracker and wordtrend are pretty expensive, nichebot has a credits system so you wind up only paying for the premium searches as and when you need them. You also get LSI and Adwords searching. Nichebot is a very serious professional keyword tool and generates so many different searches and reports you really need to watch the introduction videos to get the most out of your membership.
