If you like Ken McCarthy's attitude you might be interested in his System Seminars
Personally, I find his pragmatic down to earth point of view very refreshing in this hype filled world. I managed to hear a Copywriting Seminar he did and liked how he points out to write a good sales letter first write the bullet points, a lot of them, then you have all the material for the rest of the letter including the headline. Bullet points are good reasons why and how the "whatever it is" will benefit the buyer. What it will do for them and what they will get if they buy. Maybe that is not every possible thing one may need to know about writing sales letters but it is the main part, providing a benefit to the customer. Really enough to "do some damage".
Another interesting point he made that I may have to seriously consider is he said research shows sales letters without a header graphic sell better than one that is all slick looking. Maybe people really need to read the sales letter to really see what is being offered? Not just jump through the sub-headers to read the price or get caught up in the personality of the guy in the video? That seems to go against the grain of the concept that people buy with their emotions it seems to me, yet this is coming from a remarkably successful marketer who has also taught many very very successful marketers clear back into the '90's.
He also pointed out people don't trust too slick and corporate looking letters. I tend to feel that way so maybe it is my bias. Here is a really plain sales letter I wrote a while ago, maybe you will use the contact me, "Ask Me A Question", tab above and tell me what you think of it.
