Say I decide I want to get more traffic to this blog so I say, here is my plan, get more traffic. Well that is a goal but not a plan. Even as a plan it is only part of the overall objective of having a successful blog that can make money. I will add specifics to other parts of the plan in later posts. That means you should subscribe because more subscribers is part of the plan so I have to say that here.
A plan is:
Traffic Building Plan:
1) spend an hour a day commenting blogs in my niche market, shoot for 10-20 comments a day. Make sure the comments are relevant and informed so people will be interested in visiting here to see more.
2) Social bookmark every post in 5-10 places like stumble, digg, furl, mix, diigo. Put the bookmarks in some of the 24 known do-follow bookmarking spots (list here) . Schedule 30-45 minutes for this.
3) Post in Forums at Social Authority , Warrior Forum, Digital Point and maybe a few others if I have time. Of course you would choose forums consistent with the niche you are in. I use same idea as posting comments, intelligent thoughtful comments that make readers interested in visiting my blog. Schedule about 1 hour.
This is a solid zero cost traffic building plan based on socializing and actively putting myself out on the net where I can be found by people interested in things I offer and am interested in. Building traffic and business long term, to me, is based around building relationships.
I have in place the Twitter Tools plugin which places my post title in twitter which also shows up in pownce, friendfeed and facebook.
I also run active rss feeds into a couple squidoo lenses, some hubpages, and a few social profiles like at Mashable.
