Every where you hear how important it is to build a mailing list in your market. And it is very important. People often do not buy right away even when they are interested. That is why follow up and relationship building are very important parts of building a long term sustainable business.

Often giving away something free is the start of list building. There is more and more competition for your customer's mailbox so make whet you offer free filled with enough quality information it could be sold. You also want to be making a good impression. Then over time you will need to have a plan to get them from the list of freebie seekers to your list of customers.

Another great way to build a list is to make a good enough quality product you can convince others to give it away. If you can make an ebook that can have a link that can be re-branded so the person giving the book away can get an affiliate commission when someone they gave the book to clicks on the affiliate link in the ebook. This is competitive too so try to be outstanding in content, title, graphic presentation.

Make a product than can be sold for less than$20 and give all the payment to affiliates. This builds a list of buyers.
