How to Multiply Your Links and Get Better Search Results
March 19th, 2008 Web ToolsTags: Internet Marketing Insider Circle, sem, SEO, social marketing, web 2.0 marketing, Willie Crawford
I was at the really great forum today, the Internet Marketing Inner Circle. So I should first let you know this members only forum is part of a very useful set of information good for beginners or advanced marketers. This was started by Willie Crawford whom you may have heard of since he has been in this business 10 years. The membership is something I highly recommend for any serious marketer who wants to learn from some of the most successful people around.
Besides the large quantity of recorded interviews the forum is a place to learn. Today I saw a post by Kelly Conway at the Build My Web Empire Blog about how he pings links to posts created in places like digg to get additional links. I asked him how he did this and he was kind enough to share it with me so I bring it for my readers. If you haven’t subscribed yet I hope you see what you have been missing and subscribe.
Here it is step by step instructions
After you’ve bookmarked a link, say with Digg, you can go see that bookmark on the Digg site. While you are looking at the bookmark, copy the web address from your browser. It’ll be something like www.digg.com/your-digg-username/your-bookmark-title .
Go to www.pingomatic.com (there are others, but I use this) and do a new ping. Put the title of the post in as the title of the blog. I always have that match /your-bookmark-title from above, personally.
Paste in the Digg (or whatever) url from above in the 2nd line where it asks for the “Blog Home Page” .
The 3rd box I leave blank - it says it’s optional and I have tested putting anything in there.
Check all the top boxes or check the “default/common” option.
Submit the ping. You should see a page that shows you the result messages from all the services. “OK” “Thanks for the ping” etc.
So this is very cool. Excuse me if this sounds like hype but Internet Marketing Inner Circleis only $37 a month and will help you build your business better, faster, and bigger. I think you would be doing yourself a big favor by taking the link and joining today.

The Next Google “Slap” for Social Bookmarkers
March 19th, 2008 GooglebotTags: google, Internet Marketing, sem, SEO, social bookmarking, social marketing, wen 2.0 marketing
Google’s Jeff Waltz says…
“We are working on strategies to level the playing field, effectively bringing back natural search patterns enjoyed in the pre-social bookmarking days. For webmasters who use social media responsibly, this is nothing to worry about - we will be targeting mainly a small minority of prolific bookmarkers with a new algorithm that looks at linking patterns over time.
Webmasters who rely heavily on bookmarking their own sites to gain traffic will likely see a drop in pagerank before the end of 2008, and we will be working closely with two major social bookmarking sites to find a solution that will have no detrimental effect on the average internet user.”
There is some insightful discussion of this at The Promote Your Site Blog
It seems if you are activly involved in actually socializing you will be OK. If you are abusing the system your site will be penalized.
I agree something has to be done and it is reasonable to expect this. When I run some searches the results lean toward social sites too much.
My experience in social bookmarking shows me the best way to get the most out of the social networks is to be actively involved. I enjoy my time spent there as well.
Business in reality needs to have a healthy dose of feedback. To get known as a marketer is a good thing. The relationships I have built are definitely good for my business. Being in contact with people and seeing what they are about and what is important to them.

Does Twitter and Marketing mix well?
March 10th, 2008 Web 2.0Tags: dosh dosh, maki, marketing, marketing pilgrim, social marketing, Twitter, web 2.0 marketing
Apparently a lot of people are twittering away as part of their marketing efforts. Building relationships and keeping in touch with like minded people is a good way to build your business.
Recently Marketing Pilgrim made an interesting post about marketers who twitter, see 200+ Internet Marketing Gurus on Twitter.
As of today there has been 312 comments with others also putting their twitter links in there. I had made a bet of a donut the quantity of comments gets to 1000 so I guess we will see.
I added a lot of these folks and have seen some really interesting news and comments. Sometimes people discuss stuff and it is big news the next day. Or just interesting stuff about people doing live video from their cell phone. That reminded me of the first fish cam. It was, at the time, a big deal, a fish in an aquarium with an image that updated every 15 minutes. It was on the front page of Yahoo for some days.
A related post on Dosh Dosh is 17 ways you can use twitter, a guide for beginners, marketers, and business owners
Maki writes “Having read a great deal of other articles on Twitter, I decided a do a quick summary of all the ways you can use Twitter for both your professional or personal life. Some of these methods go beyond the use of Twitter as a lifestreaming device:”
Lifestreaming. Nice sounding term I wonder if it is in the Oxford Dictionary yet.
