Web 2.0 Marketing Ethics
January 18th, 2008 Web 2.0Tags: Internet Marketing, marketing, web 2.0 marketing
Marketing with web 2.0 sites ethics means join the conversation. Become a member sites like Mybloglog or Mashable and put up your blog, make friends, join groups.
If you use bookmarking then be real and bookmark all your favorite sites.
I have found writing newsworthy posts then putting links as stories back to my posts to be a good way to extend my writing and also gain traffic. In order to not be some sort of spammer about this I make every effort to write and post usefull and interesting stories. Reading the guidelines for the site is important. If your writing does not fall into the type of story the site wants then post where it fits.
There are many of these type of sites, Newsvine, Propeller, Marktd, to name a few. I use Web2Submitter because this software is formatted to enable me to post my stories to these news sites in a few minutes.
As web 2.0 evolves there will be more and more different sites and ways for people to meet and find information they are interested in. If you are a marketer it is usefull to make connections and for people to be able to find out what you are all about before they chose to buy what you offer. Being a participant in the web 2.0 world is a way to grow you business if you are ethical in your approach you will build trust and customers.

I was just catching up on one of my favorite blogs, Friday Traffic Report and read a very interesting post by Jack Humphrey about making money with video.
He mentioned a new way that utube is providing videos with adsence and a few other ways to make money with video I never heard of.
There are some links to video syndication sites so you video can be on many sites without having to up load to all of them.
I have links to get the Camtasia Web Video Software free from this earlier post.

Web 2.0 news sites
January 7th, 2008 Thinking Out LoudTags: digg, marketing, money, news, newsvine, propeller, stumbleupon, Web 2.0
One part of web 2.0 I find interesting is the news sites. Anyone can submit a news story so I find the most interesting and informative news items there.
There is a nice selection of sites to check for news. Each site has a little of it’s own focus and presentation.
Propeller has a wide variety of topics from regular news to fun topics like pets, humor, and movies.
ShoutWire has a nice look to it. They cover Technology, Sports, Education and many other topics
Marktd is focused on marketing so is a good resource is that is your interest.
IndianPad is a great place to get news fast because it has a clean layout. They cover everything.
Reddit is also a clean layout and has an active amount of comments going on.
Plime looks sharp. They have news with comments and a forum.
NewsVine has the best world news and the most news from the news wires like API.
All these sites have voting on the stories. Anyone who opens an account can post a story. You will want to check they posting policy before you join to make sure you can post the kind of stories you want to post wothout violating the terms.
Personally I have always been kind of a news junkie from reading the newspaper to listening to NPR and BBC world news.
If you like to write and post and get the word to the world these web 2.0 news sites offer a great way to do this. The only drawback is it can be kind of time consuming to post to that many sites, if you should choose to. Fortunatly there is a tool designed to post to these sites, Web2Submitter.
The Web2Submitter is a really usefull time saving tool. Click on the name Web2Submitter and see the video that explains how it works.

Promoting your blog
January 7th, 2008 BloggingTags: Blogging, money, social network
Joining blogger social networks is a good way to promote your blog. Joining and participating. This is a web 2.0 type activity so it is a social activity. Just jumping into mybloglog to make a link will be a much smaller benefit than getting involved.
Join communities and link interesting people to yourself. Much like forums you gain by contributing to the community. However you might do that is fine. Be who you are. Even mentioning to someone you like their blog can be nice for them.
I have heard some people complaining of spam but so far I don’t see that as any problem. I don’t think the blogging social networks are getting massive automated spam and hopefully they have technology in place to prevent this.
I have noticed all the really popular blogs are members of these sites. There has to be a reason for this.
Mybloglog, Blog Catalog, and Bumpzee are 3 I have joined so far. If you know of another good one please comment here so me and other readers can know about it.

Google Patent: RECOGNIZING TEXT IN IMAGES
January 6th, 2008 GooglebotTags: google, patent, read text in images
Google has applied for a patent where search robots will be able to read and understand text in images.
The patent application includes the ability to read text in still images and video.
A full copy of the Patent can be viewed here.
“Title: RECOGNIZING TEXT IN IMAGES
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus including computer program products for using extracted image text are provided. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method is provided. The method includes receiving an input of one or more image search terms and identifying keywords from the received one or more image search terms. The method also includes searching a collection of keywords including keywords extracted from image text, retrieving an image associated with extracted image text corresponding to one or more of the image search terms, and presenting the image.”
By making every image and video fully searchable google search results will change in ways it may be difficult to forcast. There are many internet marketers using video who will probably find this a big plus. Images of scanned text and books will now be searchable. If you put the word copyright and “you name” on a photo or video you had on the net you could be able to find people who are using your photo without your permission because you could search for it.
What effect do you think this new ability for Google to read images will have, please comment, I am curious.
